[Coronation Coach]

Small Coronation Coach (silver plated), 1953
The immediate success of the large Coronation Coach inspired Lesney to invest heavily in new tools for a miniature Coronation Coach. This little Souvenir sold over one million pieces, and gave Lesney not only the finances to create the "Matchbox" Series in late 1953 but, just as importantly, the confidence to do so. This small coach was the last of the early Lesney toys to have any Moko involvement. (From the book Collecting Matchbox Diecast Toys, The First Forty Years, by Kevin McGimpsey & Stewart Orr. See my Bibliography for more info.)

[Bread Bait Press]

Bread Bait Press (red body, unpainted wignut, green inner fixture), 1954

The Bread Bait Press, which was not, of course, a toy, was produced from 1954 until 1957 and was designed by Jack Odell to cater initially for his own fishing needs. (From the book Collecting Matchbox Diecast Toys, The First Forty Years, by Kevin McGimpsey & Stewart Orr. See my Bibliography for more info.)

[Covered Wagon]
